Stupid Things People Post on Facebook

Social Media is an amazing tool Whether it be Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram… or one of the hundreds of other options, you should be using it to support your business. And if you have employees or interns with extra time it is great to spread the wealth and get others involved (larger companies have staff and sometimes entire divisions devoted just to Tweeting, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves! After all, we are focused on small businesses and start-ups.). But just be warned… these are a few Social Media FAILS to avoid:

It’s all about ME. This one drives me up the wall. Be sure that posts are not only relevant, but interesting to others besides the person posting! If you are commenting on someone else’s post, don’t blatantly plug your company. The string of commenters do not care and the shameless self-promotion on this level will guarantee some form of resentment. And for your own posts? Be aware of your audience and keep it relevant. Yes, share news and successes, but not JUST your news and successes.

You Tube Gone Way Wrong. This incident was something to this day I still feel horribly bad forDomino’s, even though I would rather eat Kale then order pizza from them. (Yes, I am a pizza snob. Sorry. ) Poor Dominoes had the horrible experience of having two of their employees in an individually owned store put cheese up their nose and then upload a video of them doing this act on You Tube. (This is not the reason why I do not like Domino’s but …). Within a few days, the video had over a million views costing the company a massive loss of customers. My point? Make sure you do not hire people to represent your company that would pull this and second, if you do something really dumb and upload it to You Tube just be prepared for the aftermath.
