I am not a fan of automated fields, especially if they are not used correctly or there is a system error. I have seen more Dear (Contact Name Here) on more newsletters sent to me than not. Even funnier (and this is usually a system mess up) is Dear (?). I don’t know about you, but if someone is addressing me as a question mark, I am not in the biggest hurry to rush out and buy their services. My point? If you do not know how to use this function don’t. And, if you just want to play it safe, keep your newsletter salutation to a “hello”.
