How to Nail a Radio Interview

Media can be intimidating, especially if it is your first time on air. At M Communications and M Com Publishing we hold your hand and walk you through the scary waters if you need media coaching help. Here are a couple of tips and tricks to nail down an interview.

1. Listen to a show beforehand. This is a must-do and will make you less nervous as a result. You will get to know the host(s) off air and learn the format of the show.

2. Know your time zones. Confirm exact call in time and number. IF you are not a morning person. We suggest getting up an hour a head of time and drinking a gallon of coffee.

3. Prep for problems. If you have to get up early, make sure you have all of the call-in information ready to go. You may be in trouble say for instance your computer crashes before your interview on Fox and you didn’t print out the call-in information. Big whoopsie if you don’t call in (no show = bad promo for your business) and and not possible to do in studio if the station is several states away.

4. Forget your name, remember your website. If you do get nervous and happen to forget your name … at least remember your website. Chances are the hosts are going to remember your name because they are introducing you. Always have a call to action – whether it is your website, newsletter or special promo you are doing. Oh, and don’t swear on the radio. Sadly, yes … we have to share that.
